Over 10 000 Taxi drivers in the country have filed for an injunction
to prevent the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and its chief executive
Alfred Vanderpuje from enforcing bye-laws on commercial transport
operations.
They are also asking for a prohibitory injunction against the conduct of the Ghana Police Service on the grounds of illegality.
Early this month some taxi drivers describing themselves Committed
Floating Taxi Drivers Association hit the streets of Accra to
demonstrate against an AMA’s clamp down on taxi’s operating without
embossment.
The drivers complained the cost of commercial license and embossment had gone up without any explanation.
Their suit also includes a request for interpretation of some clauses of the constitution.
