Former National Treasurer of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP), Gifty Ama Asantewaa Ayeh says she ready to head the
party’s 2016 campaign as flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo prepares to name as
Campaign Manager.
According to her, women in the NPP
are tied of playing second fiddle when it comes to leadership position in the
party.
Daavi Ama as she affectionately
called disclosed this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.
Nana Akufo-Addo, is expected to name
his Campaign Manager next week ahead of the 2016 election but many have tipped
Mr Mac Manu to take up the position.
Mr. Mac Manu has been named together
with two other top party members like Dan Botwe, Stephen Ntim for the position.
But Daavi Ama believes women in the
NPP are being short changed when it such sensitive leadership positions.
Though she has no objections to the
names that has come up, she maintains that women must also be given the
opportunity.
Daavi Ama noted that there are many
competent, affable and eloquent women in the NPP who can head the party’s
campaign much better than the men and bring victory.
“NPP women like me are go-getters so
we cannot continue to play a second fiddle. Nana Addo must give us a chance”
she stressed.
The former National Treasurer added
if for nothing at all, the deputy Campaign Manager position should be given to
a woman.
Daavi Ama also advised Nana
Akufo-Addo to appoint a people-centered person hungry for power as Campaign
Manager.
