Police personnel who were sent to instil discipline and arrest illegal miners at Akenteng in the Lower West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern the place could not arrest them because they had a hint and as result, took to their heels.
Earlier reports reached Nyankonton Mu Nsem indicated that some galamsey operators had raided Akanteng in search of gold which and was negatively affecting lives in the community.
Our Eastern Regional correspondent, Prince Collins Bening reported that police personnel had been deployed to the area. He explained that some of them are hiding in excavator machines while others are also under trees making sure that these galamsey operators do not invade the land and ensure absolute peace.
However, reports indicate that, ever since these operators started the galamsey business at Akanteng, over 22 people have lost their lives by falling into pits they themselves dug.
They claim that they had orders from Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin to do the tree planting on the covered pits by the galamsey operators.
Meanwhile, calm has return to Akanteng Township due to presents of police personnel.
