FDA locks up Kama Pharmacy in Kumasi over substandard drugs

The Food and Drugs Authority in the Ashanti region has locked up the pharmacy division of the Kama group of companies for allegedly hoarding substandard drugs.

The drugs are said to be part of fake medicines Tobinco pharmaceuticals imported a few months ago.

In an interview with Citi News the Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority, Mr Vigil Eshun who confirmed the news said they had some information on Monday that the Kama group of companies had the substandard drugs which had been banned by the Food and Drugs Authority.

“We had the information on Monday and we went monitoring and on Wednesday we picked some of the goods out of the warehouse of the company and we have handed them over to the police,” he said.

Some of the drugs included today vaginal contraceptive, lonart (a anti-malaria drug) and a few others.

He added that investigations are currently going on.
